Welcome to the Children's Ministry Pages

Thank you for taking the time to look at our website. Hopefully the following information will give you a flavour of the type of church we are; the importance we put on the value of children at our church and the way that we seek to look after and nurture them through the age specific groups that are set up for them to use and enjoy here at Community Church Deal. Currently we have 4 groups which are led by volunteers and the use of a crèche area for children who are below the age of 2 years.Below is a brief description of how the groups are set up.

Crèche

All children under 2 years of age are welcome to use the crèche facilities but must be supervised by their parent. These are found in the After School Club at the far end of the school.  Alternatively there is a foyer area outside the main hall that can be used as a short term quiet area for parents with babies.

Tiny Toes

For children who are 2–4 years of age or pre-school age.  The children will be supervised by two or three members of staff.  A biblical story and activity will take place in this session alongside supervised play. Tiny Toes meet in the After School Club and share their space with the crèche.  Parents are asked to collect their children at 12noon. The Team Leader for this group is Mel Bridges. Mel is married to the pastor of our church and is a mother of 4. She has worked with children for many years and brings great humour, fun and age appropriate teaching to this fantastic group of pre-schoolers.

Little Lights

For children who are in school years R, Y1 and Y2..  The children will be supervised by two members of staff. They will be encouraged to learn about the Bible through the use of creative arts, stories, games and fun.  Little Lights meet in the Birdwood Room between 11-12noon and will be taken back to the main service at 12pm to rejoin their parents. We are currently following the Scripture Union ‘Bubbles’ lesson plans but often supplement this with other activities to enhance the children’s learning experience.  This group has a wonderful balance of female and male helpers who are committed to encouraging our children in their faith.

Bright Sparks

Bright Sparks is designed for children who are in school years 3 and 4. The children will be taught by one, sometimes 2 members of staff depending on numbers.  They will be encouraged to discover the Bible further using stories, drama, games, worship and creative arts activities. Our desire is to continue to build on what the children already know. We also like to give them an opportunity to pray together, get to know one another, strengthening their own friendships.  As Children’s Ministry Coordinator I currently lead this group. It is always encouraging to see the children growing and beginning to make Godly choices in their everyday lives. We are currently using a teaching book called ‘Detonate’ which is written by Mark Griffiths. The teaching is interactive, challenging and most of all fun. This group is always a pleasure to spend time with. J

G4C

For children who are in school years 5 and 6. The children are cared for by two members of staff each week and are encouraged to explore the Bible further using discussion groups, drama, games, prayer and much more. G4C meet in a room in the After School Club. This space has a kitchen and enables the group to sometimes share breakfast together as they grapple with bits from the bible. Luke and Gill Mussett oversee this group, often writing their own brilliant material. They have most recently started in Genesis and are covering the main events in the Bible, in order to give the children an understanding of how Biblical events can have relevance and impact in the children’s everyday lives. Fantastic!

Safety

We take the safety and protection of all children extremely seriously at CCD. All children’s workers have current CRB checks. Our current Child Protection Policy was put together by an Elder at our church who is currently a Head teacher at a school for children with special education needs. This is due to be reviewed in January 2012. I would encourage you to take a look at this document by clicking on the link below.

All new children joining us are registered so that we have a copy of any additional needs that children may have. This also ensures we have contact numbers and a record of any allergies etc that would be important for us to know.

Children who come to church are required to be with a responsible adult as we are unable to take full responsibly of children who come into the building unaccompanied.

Please be advised that children are the responsibility of the parent before, during and after the service with the exception of when they are within a children’s ministry group between 11-12. Your child is welcome to play on the outside equipment before or after the service but parents must take full responsibility during this time as there is no adult supervision.
